PROJECT ANIMALS 4^th grade

INVESTIGATE AN ANIMAL AND WRITE ABOUT IT.

• Vertebrate or invertebrate?? and what type??
• Nutrition (what do they eat?)
• Respiration (how does it breathe?)
• Reproduction (oviparous/viviparous)
• Physical description (feathers, fur, big/small, beak, mouth, colour, tail, ….)
• Habitat (where does it live?)

• Pictures of the animal.

• WITH THE COMPUTER (POWERPOINT OR SIMILAR)

NOTE 3: THE TEACHER WILL TELL YOU THE ANIMAL AND A SCIENTIFIC WOMAN THAT HAS WORKED ON ANIMALS THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES.

YOU'LL HAVE TO ADD A BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT THE WOMAN AT THE BEGINNING OR AT THE END OF THE PROJECT.

MODEL FOR THE ANIMAL PROJECT

HUMMINGBIRDS

They are vertebrate animals.

They are birds. They have wings, colourful feathers, a tail, two legs and a long and thin peak.

They can fly.

They are oviparous.

They breathe with lungs.

They can also fly backwards.

They are very small, in fact, tiny. The smallest ( the bee hummingbird) is only 5 cm long and weighs less than 2 kgs.

They are hervibores.

They eat the nectar of the flowers.

They are pollinators: they help the fertilization of new plants.

The heart of the himmingbird is 1.200 beats per minute. (Humans 60-100 beats per minute)

They only live in the American continent.

Some of the species migrate.

Depending of the species, they can live from 3 to 5 years.

The 10% of the 34 species of hummingbirds are endangered because of destruction of habitats and use of pesticides.
